Recommended recipe books and websites
Books
These are either books I've used myself or that I've heard lots of people on the internet rave about. Not all are 100% vegan, but they all contain enough vegan recipes to be worth a look.
I also recommend a trip to your local library (or a browse of their online catalogue) to see what books you can try for free. Don't just stick to 100% vegan books - world recipe books such as Chinese, Indian, African, Thai or Middle Eastern often contain vegan recipes as they have a fair amount of meat-free dishes which also don't include dairy or eggs.
The Detox Cook
by Louisa J. Walters, Aliza Baron Cohen and Adrian Mercuri
Not strictly a vegan recipe book, but the majority of recipes are vegan and most of the remainder can be made vegan. Imaginitive recipes with an emphasis on colourful vegetables and fruit.
La Dolce Vegan
by Sarah Kramer
Contains every type of recipe you could ever want, both simple and more involved to prepare, including lots of baking recipes. Sarah has also co-written two other books, How it all Vegan and The Garden of Vegan, which I haven't seen but are probably good too if this one is anything to go by.
Pizza!
by Pippa Cuthbert and Lindsay Cameron Wilson
Definitely not a vegan book, but contains lots of creative ideas for vegetable-based pizza toppings which either are vegan or can easily be made vegan. My favourite is the roasted red onion, artichoke and sage topping.
The ultimate uncheese cookbook
by Joanne Stepaniak
Apparently the book for vegan cheese-fans, this book contains various cheesy-tasting recipes with no cheese in sight. Yes, it is possible...
Vegan cupcakes take over the world
by Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero
This one's on my Christmas list (hint, hint...). Over 200 foolproof cupcake recipes (and what a cool title!).
Veganomicon
by Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero
The latest book from the author of Vegan with a Vengeance (published October 2007). I don't yet own it but I've heard very good reviews so far.
Vegan with a Vengeance
by Isa Chandra Moskowitz
One of the set texts of vegan cooking. Only downside is the lack of pictures.
Veggie Chic and Vegetarian Supercook
by Rose Elliot
Lots of ideas for special occasions, complete with full-page colour photos. Vegetarian and vegan recipes, with the vegan ones labelled as such.
World Food Cafe 2
by Chris Caldicott and Carolyn Caldicott
A vegetarian recipe book with a high proportion of vegan recipes from around the world, mainly Africa and Asia. One of the authors is a professional photographer and the book is full of beautiful, colourful photos from the places they visited collecting the recipes.
Websites
All websites are UK-based (i.e. you don't have to translate the recipes into British) unless otherwise stated.
